Indore Creates World Record, Plants 1.1 Million Saplings in a Day

Not solely about record-setting, the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative aims to pave the way for a more eco-friendly tomorrow. This city of Indore enhances its air cleanliness through tree planting thereby enhancing soil quality and promoting more species in the area. Additionally, it helps raise consciousness surrounding environmental sustainability, urging citizens to be hands-on in preserving nature.

This initiative comes under a wider plan to encourage eco-friendly methods for Indian people towards their stewardship of the environment. It is contributing to global campaigns against climate change and deteriorating environments thus depicting India’s pledges on sustainable development objectives.

Take a Step Towards the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Initiative

Indore, the cleanest city in India, has again set a milestone in the Guinness world record for “the most trees planted by a team within 24 hours”. Over 1.1 million saplings were planted in this city on July 13-14, 2024, surpassing Assam’s Forest Department’s earlier record of 921,730 in September 2023.

At the same time it was one of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ (One Tree in Mother’s Name) campaigns launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on World Environment Day which falls on June 5th every year ever since 1972 aimed at planting somewhere around 1.4 billion trees throughout India out of which 55 million would be given to Madhya Pradesh which is often referred to as “lungs of Bharat”

The BSF Academy’s Revati Range was the site of the plantation drive, which consisted of nine zones organized into 100 sub-zones. Numerous participants took part in the event including 2,000 BSF jawans, NCC cadets from around 50 schools, and over 100 NRIs who flew in from various countries, with other members of social organizations. Organizations like Hotel And Restaurant Association-WRC HRAW and Indore Hoteliers Association (IHA) were responsible for organizing the event.

Sustainable Tree Planting

Experts have emphasized the variety of saplings planted by Indore including long-lived species such as Peepal trees, Banyan trees, and Neem trees for their environmental advantages. Additionally, medicinal plants such as Amla and Guava were included to ensure diversity and sustainability in the ecosystem. This approach shows that we are indeed on the right path to a greener future.

The campaign was attended by Amit Shah who is the Union Home Minister, and he symbolically planted a sapling in support of the initiative.

Impact of Indore’s Massive Sapling Planting Initiative

Indore’s achievement of the record plantation drive is aimed at imitating similar projects throughout the nation. This massive tree-planting campaign is a major move toward raising forest cover and dealing with climate change in India. The success of this project shows that there is a need for participation from all members of the community as well as working together to achieve environmental objectives.

Conclusion

Indore is an example of an environmentalist city on earth, which set a new Guinness World Record for tree planting on such a large scale. This move sends out a message to the other regions that seek to emulate Indore’s success story of being there on their own. In this campaign we can find hope and learn about future environmental actions we should be taking.
