If you don’t have enough space in the garden then considers building a glass-container Terrarium. It is a unique style of indoor gardening that is somewhat or fully enclosed to allow heat and light to enter while confining moisture. These are entirely enclosed that often prevent moisture loss, but sometimes it allows airflow.
Nowadays, they are growing at a rapid pace and thanks to their fuss-free maintenance, natural beauty, and minimum space needs. These are great for gardeners who have a lack of outdoor space.
However, before growing in your garden first you should ensure where it will grow. As you know most plants need extreme sun and light while some need indirect sun and light. In Terrarium plants can receive indirect sunlight because the glass container easily magnifies the sun’s rays. If the light goes straight it will heat up the glass and cause too much temperature inside.
The golden rule of planting is to let the plant’s nursery tag be your guide. If you have selected the place as where to build Terrarium, you will need the following tools and instructions to build Terrarium.
What will you need?
- Glass container
- Marbles, pebbles, and sea glass
- Sheet moss
- Soil
- Terrarium plants
- Potting mix
- Decorative items
- Garden trowel
- Activated charcoal
How to Make Terrarium in 6 Easy steps?
1. Pick the right glass container
You can take any glass container such as a pickle jar, crystal clear jars, or vintage vase. You can buy ready-made Terrariums which usually come in various sizes and designs. Make sure you have selected the best piece which is clear, fresh, and tends to hinder the plant growth.
Also, check the size of opening the container. For instance, a perfume bottle can be a great choice but its narrow opening can damage the plants. It is best to choose containers with wide openings.
2. Check your rocks
Add pebbles and marbles in the bottom of the container. This will help in shaping the Terrarium while adding drainage holes. Must check the layer of rocks in the container, because the smaller the vessel is the thinner the rock is. So, you will need to check accordingly and when finished the things should look nice.
3. Put the next layer
Now put the next layer in a container of sheet moss in water for a few seconds and squeeze out the excess liquid. Then add damp moss onto the rocks, pat it down and so the entire surface will cover and form a barrier that helps to sit down the soil into pebbles.
4. Put the soil
Take scoops of soil and add it into the container with several inches of soil. Make sure to get most out of soil because greenery basically depends on the quality of soil and its placement. For example: use peat moss mixture for moss and for other plants potting mix soil or non-moisture control potting mix will work.
If a plant requires a specific type of soil then use that. Please note the soil doesn’t have to be flat. Also don’t fill the container too high. Put the adequate amount of soil that is required to grow the plants efficiently.
5. Lodge your plants
If you are planting moss then first spray the pesticides to debug the fungi. Use the trimmer to set the plants and place it in the container and then press it down slowly. Just like outdoor plants plant your plants accordingly with sufficient material like soil, water, etc.
6. Water the plants
Watering plants is essential. So make sure you have water the plants in adequate amounts. Also ensure the watering tank has no hole in it. Please note- one should water slowly. For the best results, watering every 2-4 weeks should be best.
Just be careful in every step and you will build the best Terrarium. Good Luck!
